Technological Innovations Mastering the Art of Micro-Shear: How Suddle Group Crafts Ophthalmic Scissors
Manufacturing a high-performance ophthalmic iris scissor requires an uncompromising blend of metallurgy, precision engineering, and specialized hand finishing. A micro-scissor blade measuring just 11.5 cm with a 15 mm cutting edge leaves zero margin for mechanical error.
At Suddle Group, our manufacturing process begins with imported German martensitic stainless steel (AISI 420 / 440 grade). The raw stock undergoes drop forging in precision dies to establish uniform grain alignment, preventing internal metal stress during autoclaving.
Subsequent vacuum heat treatment hardens the blades to HRC 54-58. For our Tungsten Carbide range, micro-thin TC plates are silver-brazed to the steel blade edges under controlled atmospheric conditions, creating a molecular bond that withstands severe mechanical impact and chemical degradation.
